Breaking News of the moment comes from West London, where troubled actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who played lead role in Bend It Like Beckham, is suspected to have made a suicide attempt, and was rushed to hospital.

Media reports say that 33 year old actor tried to commit suicide by overdosing on unspecified pills at his home in west London on Tuesday evening. Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been battling a long-standing drink problem and has been in-and-out of rehab five times for alcohol problems.

Paramedics answering a 999 call found him slumped on the floor and had to call the police after he refused treatment at the scene for more than 30 minutes.

He was later discharged from the hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Meyers is regarded as one of the rising stars of the acting world. He owns homes in Los Angeles and Monaco as well as London and his native Dublin - has long battled a drink problem which worsened following the death of his beloved mother in 2007.

The actor has been dating heiress Reena Hammer, however there are rumors in media that their relationship has recently been under threat.

Meyers has starred in films including Alexander, Velvet Goldmine and Bend It Like Beckham. He won a Golden Globe for his role as Elvis in a US TV series.

He has also worked as a model for Hugo Boss and Versace.
