Neeraj Grover Murder Case Verdict : Maria gets 3 years, Emile Jerome Mathew 10 years in Jail

Finally the verdict of Neeraj Grover Murder case is out.

Today, a Mumbai court sentenced ex-naval officer Emile Jerome Mathew to 10 years in jail while Kannada actress Maria Monica Susairaj was given a three year sentence for the murder of television executive Neeraj Grover in May 2008.

In a gruesome crime of passion, Neeraj Grover, a producer working with a private television company, was killed by Mathew early morning of May 7, 2008, after he found him naked in Susairaj's apartment in Dheeraj Solitaire building in the northwest suburb of Malad.

Sessions Judge M.W. Chandwani Thursday held Mathew 'guilty of culpable homicide, not amounting to murder' and destroying evidence in the case. Susairaj was also found guilty of destroying evidence.

Jerome was convicted on the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 304 (part I) IPC which attracts life term in jail or imprisonment up to ten years. Both he and Maria were also found guilty of trying to destroy evidence under section 201 IPC which provides for a maximum three years in jail.

Since Maria has already served more than three years in prison, she can now walk free.

Chief public prosecutor Ramnath Kini said, “We are definitely going to appeal before the high court. Susairaj got off too easily and was not convicted for murder. Why did she keep Grover in the house if she knew Emile was going to come soon?”

He added that they are unhappy that Jerome was also acquitted for murder. “In our opinion, it was a case of murder.”
